The 2023 vintage offers classic Riesling, with enough space for spice and minerality alongside the fruit. This balance creates the most harmonious flavour profile we’ve seen in years. For the first time, we awarded 98 points to two Rieslings from the 2023 vintage in Wiesbaden. The two best Riesling collections of the 2023 vintage come from two Rheinhessen vintners: Philipp Wittmann and H.O. Spanier, who also managed the remarkable feat of securing the highest rating in the Pfalz with his Kreuzberg. 98 points for the Frauenberg from Battenfeld-Spanier represent the highest scores we have awarded in Wiesbaden over the years. … The Frauenberg is even more defined by limestone and carries a very Burgundy-like elegance… The Battenfeld-Spanier collection (with scores of 98, 96, and 95, plus 97 points for the Kreuzberg from the Pfalz).
