Hohen-Sülzen lies in the Eisbach Valley, which as its name suggests features a cold highlands brook flowing down from the Donnersberg massif. This topography has a significant influence that is most pronounced on cooler evenings. The temperature fluctuations between day and night are greater in Hohen-Sülzen than in our other districts. Wines grown here maintain an incredible freshness, elegance and pleasant acidity despite the high ripeness levels in the fruit.
The VDP classifies the vineyards of its members, with the finest divided into “Grosse Lagen” and “Este Lagen” sites. Starting with the 2018 vintage, our Hohen-Sülzen Riesling will bear the VDP. AUS ERSTEN LAGEN classification, as only grapes from classified Erste and Große Lagen sites can be used in this wine.
